  1. a genocide implies an intentional killing based on targeted group's ethnicity. The hunger of 1932-33 was not intentional, it was caused by the planned economy and not only ukrainians died during it. Millions of russians and millions of kazakhs died as well, throwing them away from the picture just bleaches the hunger and makes it look a lot less horrible. "Holodomor" implies only what happened in ukraine during the hunger, but "the hunger of 1932-33" implies the whole hunger.

  3. for me the biggest issue is that "holodomor" is just an ukrainian name for the part of the hunger of 1932-1933 and how it was going on in ukraine and that ukrainians say that the hunger was artificial, when in fact it was just started by the ineffectness of the planed economy, not of some stalin's evil intent. Calling the hunger of 1932-33 holodomor excludes millions of other people who died of it because they died outside of ukraine. And calling it a genoside bleaches comunism because it blatantly implies that not the economic system caused peoples' deaths but just an evil wish of one man, and comunism is kinda not there, like it isn't its fault, but simply stalin's. That is not true. The ussr committed many other actual genocides and there is no sense in making them up
