It also suspends 8 US code 1325; the misdemeanor that carries a civil penalty for crossing the border. And 8 US code 1326; stiffer penalties for crossing the border. That leaves out any legal penalty or deterrent for those crossing. All we can do is deport, and many re-cross again with no penalty in place. @richardcabesa3949 I already have in this comment thread, stated those laws and explained how title 42 suspends the authority of those law. The Right seems to ignorant to use critical thinking and understand the obvious.

@michaelfleming5999 lol. Why would they want to change laws that were working before Trump. Under Obama there was a decline in southern border crossings and they did introduce bipartisan immigration reform and Republicans rejected it twice, as it required a super majority. And no there is absolutely no need to change the law.

It's because the base is clueless and your leadership is stupid. We had bipartisan comprehensive immigration reform under Bush and Obama, and the Right rejected it for a wall rally call at a point when southern border crossings were at the lowest. We had a 17 year decline in southern border crossing to the lowest point in 50 years, prior to Trump and his failed policies. By 2019 Trumps policies doubled that number to 977,000 crossing the southern border. He only saw reduction for the first 9 months of 2020 due to covid, before it went back to a 20 year monthly high in October of 2020. It has remained a 20 year high and growing ever since under those failed policies and title 42. Trump did not have it down to a trickle, he increased it. And no there has not been one common sense policy from the Right on immigration ever. Biden was not separating children from legal asylum seekers as a deterrent and violating immigration laws, Trump was. And it violated US code 1158 and was reversed in federal court in East Bay Sanctuary vs Trump. It helps to have an actual clue what's been going on, and you do not.
