Title 42 suspended title 8 laws and authority use to deter and penalize illegal border crossing. The Right was using it to undermine legal asylum under 8 US code 1158. It also suspended 8 US code 1325; the misdemeanor that carries a civil penalty for crossing the border illegally. And 8 US code 1326; stiffer penalties for crossing the border after deportation That left out any legal penalty or deterrent for those crossing and stopped legal asylum, with few exceptions under title 42. Makes it difficult to enforce immigration laws when Republicans are fighting in court to undermine our legal enforcement. With title 42 suspending enforcement many immigrants re-crossed multiple times causing apprehension numbers to be inflated. The current rate of multiple returns was about 40% of border crossers. We had a 11 year decline in southern border crossing to the lowest point in 50 years prior to Trump and his polices. By 2019 Trumps policies doubled the number of people crossing the southern border to 977,000. He only saw a reduction for the first 9 months of 2020 due to covid, before it went back to a 20 year monthly high in October of 2020. It has remained a 20 year high and increasing ever since under Trumps failed policies and Title 42.

Yes realistic border policy works. Trumps wall was not that.
1
@jakejones5736 correction nothing Trump did improved immigration or national security. Immigration doubled under his watch. His wall was a rally call for the low informed.
1
@jakejones5736 data based on evidence and not personal perception of a few. I have no doubt that barriers have done much to reduce border crossings. That doesn't make Trumps border wall plan any more realistic or make it good policy. Like I said, it was a rally call. There was no cost benefit analysis and it waa not what we needed at the time. We had a 17 year decline is southern border crossings to the lowest point in 50 years when Trump was trying to sell his big beautiful wall across the entire southern border. What we needed was more electronic surveillance, more court rooms and judges, more holding facilities and a focus on those that were already here and fix the issue with the visa program. What we got was after that 50 year low, was Trumps failed policies that for the most part violated immigration law. Appreciations doubled under Trump in 2019. The only reduction came in 2020 due to covid and title 42. Look at the monthly apprehension numbers by demographics and compare title 42 with title 8. Then look at the court cases that reversed Trumps policies. Then you will have information and not a narrative. Ask the question what can Biden do differently that doesn't violate US immigration law, and ask why the Right wing media isn't talking about what the law states.
1
BS, this is what the MSM has said all along. We already had border security that cut border crossing in half. The left and the media wanted more focus on fixes to the Visa program and electronic surveillance. Trumps rhetoric of a wall was a waste of spending on an issue that was already in decline. It wasn't until his second year that Trump changed his talking points to include those issues. This is why even with Republican majorities in both houses of Congress they never put a bill to vote to include the funding he requested. The right wing media was the one who pushed the narrative of the left wanted open borders, while at the same time pushing a narrative of the left supporting border security before Trump.
1
Dander Spat Still on with that 30 year old conspiracy theory that still isn't happening.
1
Dander Spat thanks for sharing your crazy nonsense. Not once have I ever seen Democrats openly support open borders or call anyone racist for not supporting it. Just because your crazy media makes the claim and you allow it to fit your misguided narrative doesn't make it real.
1
Dander Spat you must have recognized my left wing ability to mock crazy people and the nonsense they believe.
1
You do but you get your MSM stories filtered through right wing media.
1
This video is a great example of what is wrong with Trumps border policy. We already had increased border security that cut crossings in half. Trumps rhetoric did not include electronic surveillance, more immigration courts, and fixes to the Visa program.

Everyone needs to expose the Right for the liars they are, and fore the failed policies they created that caused this crisis.

Due to false claims of voter fraud, asylee’s not showing up for court, criminal activity, and just right wing claims used to breed hate. The Right has unilaterally decided to undermine legal asylum. And have dubbed it as an open border policy and fed that buzz word to a right wing base who have no understanding of immigration laws. Trumps zero tolerance policy to separate children, Remain in Mexico, Title 42. All attempts to stop legal asylum under US laws that have been in place for over 40 years. Yet now using it to trigger a base that is now openly full of hate on immigrants and this hate is now fed by GOP governors feeding off of that for votes from GOP supporters who immoral views support separating children as a deterrent, use of lethal force, lying to immigrants to ship them to dem cities to stick it to libs, incarceration, placing them in the hands of traffickers. All because of immigrants who may or may not have violated a misdemeanor that carries a civil penalty. And the Right wing base just does not understand our law.
1
Yes the Trump administration has done a lot to make sure immigrant children and all immigrants to suffer.

@lisahernandez8187 yes the Right is immoral and wrong and the Right wing base is completely clueless and low informed. That's an easy fact to prove.

It's what the MSM has said just not what the right wing media tells you. We already knew the existing border security has cut border crossing in half. That's why Congress in both parties never approved new spending on wall rhetoric. We needed focus on other border security measure the Trump was not talking about until his second year in office.

@frankdawe5156 you don't seem to grasp the idea of sanctuary status and the rest of your claims are right wing talking points with no truth to them in reality.

Good thing prosecution on traffickers fell significantly under the Trump administration.
1
@saureco unlike the Right I don't assume to have intimate detail of what every person on the earth to be able to know what they are going through and determine if they have a valid asylum request before they make it to the border. This is why we have a law, so thst they can make the request and then we can vet therequest. The immoral Right just wants to claim they all don't belong due to rhetoric and hate. You have seen video of them getting free legal advice on how to overcome Trumps hardliner policies that were in violation of US immigration law and used to undermine legal asylum.
1
@esstone Try reading what I wrote idiot. It has everything to do with now. If it's beyond your understanding then STFU, and go learn our laws.
