@mikekelloggs9379 Republicans want to keep title 42 in place. Title 42 suspends all title 8 laws and authority. The Right is using it to once again undermine legal asylum, 8 US code 1158. It also suspends 8 US code 1325; the misdemeanor that carries a civil penalty for crossing the border. And 8 US code 1326; stiffer penalties for crossing the border. That leaves out any legal penalty or deterrent for those crossing. All we can do is deport, and many re-cross again with no penalty in place. That causes our apprehension numbers to be inflated and the get away numbers to be inflated....

@melgillham462 it's a federal misdemeanor that carries a civil penalty for the first offense. Asylum seekers can not be penalized for crossing the border of a safe haven country. That is in law in treaty and confirmed in federal court. Under title 42, those laws are suspended and now there is nothing in our laws that deter immigrats. We ship them back and they have repeatedly cross, inflating apprehension numbers. That's the problem is Republicans keeping title 42.
