It also suspended 8 US code 1325; the misdemeanor that carries a civil penalty for crossing the border illegally. And 8 US code 1326; stiffer penalties for crossing the border after deportation That left out any legal penalty or deterrent for those crossing and stopped legal asylum, with few exceptions under title 42. Makes it difficult to enforce immigration laws when Republicans are fighting in court to undermine our legal enforcement. With title 42 suspending enforcement many immigrants re-crossed multiple times causing apprehension numbers to be inflated. The current rate of multiple returns was about 40% of border crossers. She was sent there to find the root cause of irregular migration and seek out private funding and report back on that assignment. This was completed in 2020. She at no other time was assigned any other duties with the border or immigration. Stop being so easily manipulated by the lying Right. It's not hard to confirm.

In that arrogance it caused a spike in crossing between checkpoints. Covid was the only factor that lowered the number for a short period of time, before acing back to record numbers of crossing during winter months for 5 months prior to Biden taking office. Biden was still under Trumps failed policies that dismantled the working process we had under Obama. So party yes back to the Obama administration policy of following immigration laws passed by congress.
