Those policies were in violation of the law and they did nothing to slow immigration.

@lordsullivan4368 LOL what failures of Biden he's been in office for 70 days and you have no idea what you're talking about. Trump violated 8 US code 1158 our asylum laws in the 1980 INA. He was separating families of legal asylum seekers crossing the border between check points. And before you claim that is illegal, look at the law and learn what the word asylum means. That separations caused families to send children unaccompanied to avoid the arrest. We are legally required to take unaccompanied minors. Trump was also forcing Asylum seekers, that came to ports of entry, to wait in Mexico that too is a violation of the INA laws and international treaty. Yes, federal courts already looked into both those policies and reversed them last year, Biden is following immigration law and the decisions of those courts. A federal judge appointed by Trump, also stopped Trumps policy use of the third country rule as it does not apply to Mexico without the same treaty we have with Canada. I will blame Trump for policies he created unlike the Right who will blame who is in office for policies that were created by the previous administration, because they are too low informed to understand how government works.

@beckygann7852 not foolish enough to listen to someone on the Right who is guessing to defend her tribalism, because you sure don't know the law or the facts.
2
Can we do that to the Right and Trump too. I just watched a video of immigration at the border in May if 2019. Under Trumps 144,,000 apprehension month. The Right was in the comment section blaming Biden. The Right keeps parroting talking Points, and have yet to learn anything about the border.

We had a 11 year decline in southern border crossing to the lowest point in 50 years prior to Trump and his polices. By 2019 Trumps policies doubled the number of people crossing the southern border to 977,000. He only saw a reduction for the first 9 months of 2020 due to covid, before it went back to a 20 year monthly high in October of 2020. It has remained a 20 year high and increasing ever since under Trumps failed policies and Title 42. Title 42 suspended title 8 laws and authority use to deter and penalize illegal border crossing. The Right was using it to undermine legal asylum under 8 US code 1158. It also suspended 8 US code 1325; the misdemeanor that carries a civil penalty for crossing the border illegally. And 8 US code 1326; stiffer penalties for crossing the border after deportation That left out any legal penalty or deterrent for those crossing and stopped legal asylum, with few exceptions under title 42. Makes it difficult to enforce immigration laws when Republicans are fighting in court to undermine our legal enforcement. With title 42 suspending enforcement many immigrants re-crossed multiple times causing apprehension numbers to be inflated. The current rate of multiple returns was about 40% of border crossers.

Because we have laws that he has to follow.
1
@lordsullivan4368 Also if you look at apprehension numbers and data you would see that this started back in October, and the numbers are far below what trump had during his surge in 2019.

@garyoakham9723 poor assumption and no.
1
Blackredneck They only Trump policy that was within the law and had a measured effect Title 42 due to covid. Prior to covid they had no effect. 2019 he had 977,000 crossing with several months over 100,000. That was after two years in office, Biden has had 70 days. That was also after a 17 year reduction in southern border apprehensions from 1 million a year to 450,000 the lowest poor in 50 years. That was before Trump unilateral violation of immigration laws. This increase in unaccompanied minors started about 6 months ago. Look at the apprehension numbers by month.
1
@lordsullivan4368 hard for Trump to blame Obama for 2018 after being in 9ffice for two years and southern border apprehensions were at there lowest in 50 years when Trump came into office. They increased under Trump. This surge started about 6 months ago when we had the highest apprehension numbers for those winter months going back 20 years. Biden's policies are following immigration laws. The loop holes you speak of are legal asylum rights for a reason. This keeps a minority of low informed that want to believe all immigrants claims are illegitimate or invalid, from making unilateral policy that violates the law.
1
@lordsullivan4368 just not true. They have a legal right to make the request. Then they are interviewed to see if they have a creditable fear. Then they get a court date to determine if their asylum case is valid if not they are deported. Stop acting like there isn't a process of vetting when you know you have not bothered to check any the facts on your claims and clearly have not read the law. And stop assuming that the process is being abused by condemning all if them when you don't know individual circumstance. We have laws for a reason.
1
@lordsullivan4368 it has been good luck as it cut border apprehensions in half before Trump came in and screwed with a system that was working. Because his followers were to low informed to know they were effective and too low informed to know that immigration was already being reduced before Trump.
1
@lordsullivan4368 well he's only been there for 80 days and there is a lot to clean up, but thst seems to be the job of Democrat President. To clean up after the last Republican. Just think you guys can start blaming Biden for the deficit Trump created too, just like you did with Obama.

@lordsullivan4368 4 years won't remove your willful ignorance of the facts. Try reading the law or a court transcript.

Yep.
1
@sakkysha5496 what's the legal way? The Right keeps saying that, but it's clear they don't know the law. Nor do they know or care about the laws Trump was violating.
1
@sakkysha5496 not really a comparison. Trumps policy was to ignore immigration law and create unilateral decisions to prevent legal asylum seekers from immigrating. Biden is clearly following the law at the border. The problem is making it clear to Americans what the law actually states.

@shamrockgirl6595 no I'm just better informed then you.

@raevj Trumps policies were directed at stopping legal asylum seeker. The Right just does not like the process so the right has been unilaterally undermining the process and lying to their low informed base.

Only due to the fact that the Right believes every immigrant is illegal.

Don't forget about the million new voter we got with Trump in just 2019 alone.
