We had a 11 year decline in southern border crossing to the lowest point in 50 years prior to Trump and his polices. By 2019 Trumps policies doubled the number of people crossing the southern border to 977,000. He only saw a reduction for the first 9 months of 2020 due to covid, before it went back to a 20 year monthly high in October of 2020. It has remained a 20 year high and increasing ever since under Trumps failed policies and Title 42. Title 42 suspended title 8 laws and authority use to deter and penalize illegal border crossing. The Right was using it to undermine legal asylum under 8 US code 1158. It also suspended 8 US code 1325; the misdemeanor that carries a civil penalty for crossing the border illegally. And 8 US code 1326; stiffer penalties for crossing the border after deportation That left out any legal penalty or deterrent for those crossing and stopped legal asylum, with few exceptions under title 42. Makes it difficult to enforce immigration laws when Republicans are fighting in court to undermine our legal enforcement. With title 42 suspending enforcement many immigrants re-crossed multiple times causing apprehension numbers to be inflated. The current rate of multiple returns was about 40% of border crossers.. .

@zytebac Remain in Mexico was only effective in putting immigrants and children in the hands of cartels and trafficker. Border crossings increased after it was createds. Yes it is far more humane to take Asylum seekers in as our laws require then to leave them on the Mexican side of the border with no resorces and where criminal organaizations can prey on them. When you see toddlers being tossed over border walls that is a result of support for that immoral policy. The validity of their claim comes later, but Republicans don't want to fund the legal process. They want t it to fail so they can insert more hardline policies.

Why because it's the truth that you don't want to hear, or because you don't know the difference between an asylum seeker and other immigrants?

@zytebac I don't know I have not spoke to all of them and unlike the Right I don't assume all claims are invalid because of rhetoric and propaganda. Nor should we be cutting off access to those in need because you want to keep out the rest due to Haye and fea, like the rest of the Rights platform of cutting of humanitarian assistance because of false fraud claims by the GOP.

@zytebac If they do not qualify for asylum then they are deported that is how the process works. My comment was to explain the purpose of asylum is not to punish and pose immoral policies on them becasue the Right doesn't like immigrants. I don't remember reading in the law where Right wing rhetoric by claiming they all do not qualify before they make the request is the process for asylum.

@zytebac BS. No one is being shoved aside the Right just does't do anything to help them. You complain a lott about the lefts efforts to hep others, but again this is just another talking point. If there were no immigrants to hate you would still be doing nothing to help the homeless just complaining about what the left is doing. If it's vets you do nothing but complainabout the need to help vets but doing nothing. It's a stupid argument, and we can do what is needed for both. The right will not pay for any of it. All your comments are irrelevant we have laws learn them if you don't like them have your congressmen change the law. The Right doesn't get to ignore them becasue they don't like them cause the border to fail and then blame everyone else for your ignornace.

Stop parroting your puppet masters when you have no clue what you are taliking about and you have never read one of those executive order. Trumps policies were not working and border crossing were at a record level afte remain in Mexico was created. Remain in Mexico was in violation of US law and international treaty. It did nothign to secure our borders. We were under title 42 for 3 years that means those who did not qualify under our asylum laws were placed into expidited removal, free to recross as offten as they want. Get a clue and get out of your misinformation bubble.

That's because you are so low informed that you assume all border crossings are asylum seekers, or that all who crossed the border was able to stay. We had expedited remover for 3 years. Learn our laws .

That's why you do your own research, and then find out that the Republicans just made up their numbers and the lefts are based in facts and evidence.
