Title 42 suspended title 8 laws and authority use to deter and penalize illegal border crossing. The Right was using it to undermine legal asylum under 8 US code 1158. It also suspends 8 US code 1325; the misdemeanor that carries a civil penalty for crossing the border illegally. And 8 US code 1326; stiffer penalties for crossing the border. That leaves out any legal penalty or deterrent for those crossing and stops legal asylum, with few exceptions under title 42. Makes it difficult to enforce immigration laws when Republicans are fighting in court to undermine our legal enforcement. With title 42 suspending enforcement that means many immigrants recross multiple times causing apprehension numbers to be inflated. The current rate of multiple returns is about 40% of border crossers.

We had a 11 year decline in southern border crossing to the lowest point in 50 years prior to Trump and his polices. By 2019 Trumps policies doubled the number of people crossing the southern border to 977,000. He only saw a reduction for the first 9 months of 2020 due to covid, before it went back to a 20 year monthly high in October of 2020. It has remained a 20 year high and increasing ever since under Trumps failed policies and Title 42.

Due to false claims of voter fraud, asylee’s not showing up for court, criminal activity, and just right wing claims used to breed hate. The Right has unilaterally decided to undermine legal asylum. And have dubbed it as an open border policy and fed that buzz word to a right wing base who have no understanding of immigration laws. Trumps zero tolerance policy to separate children, Remain in Mexico, Title 42. All attempts to stop legal asylum under US laws that have been in place for over 40 years. Yet now using it to trigger a base that is now openly full of hate on immigrants and this hate is now fed by GOP governors feeding off of that for votes from GOP supporters who immoral views support separating children as a deterrent, use of lethal force, lying to immigrants to ship them to dem cities to stick it to libs, incarceration, placing them in the hands of traffickers. All because of immigrants who may or may not have violated a misdemeanor that carries a civil penalty. And the Right wing base just does not understand our law.

@donnaw3765 §1158. Asylum(a) Authority to apply for asylum (1) In general Any alien who is physically present in the United States or who arrives in the United States (whether or not at a designated port of arrival and including an alien who is brought to the United States after having been interdicted in international or United States waters), irrespective of such alien's status, may apply for asylum in accordance with this section or, where applicable, section 1225(b) of this title.

@donnaw3765 Please explain in detail how and why immigrants who just crossed the border who are trying to get legal status to stay or is trying to avoid detection, are going to vote in an election, when their vote will not count and risk being caught. Half of legal citizens don't vote. Do you use any critical thinking when you absorb the rhetoric from your puppet master?
1
@brianbey7968 good for them and the few who will pass through the legal process. Now they can legally vote in an election, maybe try not lying about them and treating them like sh it. Imagine how much easier it would be to keep those out who do not qualify, by following our immigration laws and not undermining enforcement for 6 years.

@farmerthatflies Your memory like most of the right have failed you and shows your ignorance in the face of the data from CBP. How was trumps border wall working when there was record level border crossings for 5 months before Biden took office. When was it working, under Covid? The wall was a rally call for the low informed who had no idea what we needed to secure the border, it was never a serious policy. That is why Republicans refused to fund it. when Trump had majorities in both houses of congress.

@farmerthatflies After years of the right blaming the left for not voting to fund his wall. It was nice to hear Trump say in his last speech how it was fiscally responsible conservatives like Paul Ryan that did not fund his wall.

@rosiegbo7838 And this is why the Right remains low informed of our laws and the process. Yes I can go online right now and send in a voter registration in your name to any state. That doesn't mean you or I get to vote in your name in any state. Felons and people under the voting age get drivers license and can not vote. Once you register it goes to a country clerk office they determine if that registration is valid. Immigrants who can get drivers licenses like those here on a visa, can not use them to vote. Stop listening to your puppet masters they remove your critical thinking skills.

@blahblahoink Yep attack immigrant willing to come and serve to protect our nation out of your Right wing hate. That sums up the Right.

@lindabell125 yes Trumps wall was a rally call for the low informed and not realistic policy. That is why he could not get funding from fiscally responsible conservatives when he held both houses of congress. Until the cultist took over the party and creTed policies thst caused our border security to fail. It's still a rally call for the low informed. We need to follow our immigration laws and an informed voter base.

@lindabell125 Trumps policies and his low informed supporters who pay no attention to the policies he created, is what open the border and caused this issue, get out of your misinformation bubble and go learn something about our laws.

@valstewart6661 3rd time posing this in this thread to the easily manipulated. This is why the Right remains low informed of our laws and the process. @valstewart6661 what policy was rescinded that was working when border crossing are at record levels for 5 months in a row before Biden took office, and when border crossing were at a record level in 2019, bookending the covid reduction.

And the Rights plan going forward is to continue the same policies and reinstate the same policies that caused this. All they need now is to create a reason to reintroduce title 42 without a health order, ignore our existing laws and violate them without any integrity or pass a law that rescinds 50 years of asylum law protections and treaty obligations.
1
@SissyPeak-kq6vi No, but that doesn't mean we just ignore the immoral policies used by Trump and Republicans in congress. Even the policies the Biden puts in place that the Right should support and are required by laws the Right criticizes. The Right needs to learn the full context and learn that their leadership and media are lying to them. We need an informed voting base and we need to hold them to the law. Biden has been slow to act, but there is not much else he can do his hands are tied.

He was calling for our legal asylum laws to be followed that Trump was undermining.

@REM977 lol if that's your problem then you are in the right place. Good way of avoiding the woke issue is avoiding Right wing media. Turn it off and you'll never hear about it again. If that's an issue for you then you are as manipulate on that subject as you were on the border.

@PuffyPaladen yes that is allbthe Rigyt ever reports on the border. My information is adding context to Right wing lies and my information is easy to confirm.
