We have one with Canada, but not any other country south of the US. A bilateral agreement is the wording in the law. The proper way to request asylum is be on US soil and request it. At that point their claim can be give to an asylum agent who will decide if their claims meets the requirements to stay and make a case in front of an immigration judge. This has been the process for over 40 years until the Right unilaterally undermined that process under Trump and continue to undermine it today. Learn the law and the process before making claims about it when you have no idea what you are talking about.

Getting legal representation to legally cross the border and gain legal status, in the face of a Trump administration who is undermining legal asylum. sounds about something the low informed would complain about. The third country exception does not apply to any country south of the US. Read a law and learn the process before trying to make up stuff you have no clue about.

Trump did not have the ability to fix it. We were already at a 50 year low in southern border crossings when Trump was pushing his ridiculous rally call for a wall.   98.  @allananderson949  The penalty for crossing the border for the first offense is a misdemeanor that carries a civil penalty. That penalty is deportation and can result in jail time depending on circumstances. If they are deported and they try and cross again they are hit with stiffer penalties. If they are requesting asylum there is no penalty. If they are denied in their initial interview they are deported. If they are trying to avoid detection then they are obviously not asylum seekers. The Right want's to bunch them all into one category and treat them all the same. Under title 42 there is no penalty for crossing at all and no asylum unless they fit the extreme narrow conditions under title 42, they are put into expedited removal and that is it. they are now free to cross as many times as they want without penalty, under title 42. This inflates apprehension numbers and gotaway numbers.
