Comments by "Scott Farner" (@scottfarner5100) on "GOP Senator Dismisses Claim From Sec. Mayorkas On How To Improve The Southern Border" video.
Everyone knows the process is broken. They disagree on what is not working. The left believes it's broken because we do not have the immigration courts and detention centers available to carry out our immigration and asylum process in a timely manner. Republicans think the process broken because they think our immigration laws specifically asylum is a loophole in the law that allows them all to just claim asylum and stay for the long process without qualifying.

@younney1533 Title 42 suspended title 8 laws and authority use to deter and penalize illegal border crossing. The Right was using it to undermine legal asylum under 8 US code 1158. It also suspended 8 US code 1325; the misdemeanor that carries a civil penalty for crossing the border illegally. And 8 US code 1326; stiffer penalties for crossing the border after deportation That left out any legal penalty or deterrent for those crossing and stopped legal asylum, with few exceptions under title 42. Makes it difficult to enforce immigration laws when Republicans are fighting in court to undermine our legal enforcement. With title 42 suspending enforcement many immigrants re-crossed multiple times causing apprehension numbers to be inflated. The current rate of multiple returns was about 40% of border crossers. We had a 11 year decline in southern border crossing to the lowest point in 50 years prior to Trump and his polices. By 2019 Trumps policies doubled the number of people crossing the southern border to 977,000. He only saw a reduction for the first 9 months of 2020 due to covid, before it went back to a 20 year monthly high in October of 2020. It has remained a 20 year high and increasing ever since under Trumps failed policies and Title 42.

@younney1533 He is in charge of DHS, who is under the executive branch of the constitution. And under that executive branch would carry out laws passed by congress. That would include our INA laws on how we process immigrants. I've watched these hearings and he does not ignore their questions. And the GOP does not ask him what he needs, he tells them what he needs while they leave out context and insert false information into their questions, transfer blame, and cut him off every time he attempts to add full context to their attempts to create a sound bite that fits the false narrative the Right wing base has been fed for years. Those laws I'm talking about are 5 decades old. and because the Right does not like the one that allows for legal asylum the Right has been undermining that law for 5 years and caused this crisis, when it blew up in your face long before Biden took office.

@dancinginabundance it violates our immigration laws and international treaty. It forces asylum looking for humanitarian help or refuge to stay where they are in danger of cartels, traffickers, and other crimes leading to more crossing between checkpoints. Instead of being vetted and detained or released on bail into the US where they have access to legal counsel and possibly family members that can help them. It just increases the number of unaccompanied minors who have to be taken in when it was used.

@younney1533 you have no clue wtf you are talking about. He does not make our immigration laws, congress does. Mayorkas is following our immigration laws. You have never read one.

@younney1533 Where is this video, because I hear this a lot. When i listen to them I hear an answerer that most of the Right wing base would not understand, because I know the law and the process without the manipulation of a talking head. i also understand what polices have caused the most harm and I know that under the conditions left to this administration they are following the law for the most part. I know he has asked for more funding and I know he's been giving funding that is at time extremely specific as to how he can use it. He ignores their attempts to build narratives and sound bites and ignores their attempts to transfer blame and uses his time to (slowly) describe the process. You are only seeing a small clips to use for reelection campaigns. You don't see them hitting him with the same question over and over after already releasing a written statement on what is going on and being in Multiple hearings. How many times does Kennedy need to suggest using the 1st safe country rule when it's been tried and stopped by the courts twice, under Trump and Biden last August. This is nothing but a show, that he has to be put through by the very same people who created the crisis.

@younney1533 Even in this clip, that is the better exchanges where intelligent questions were asked and an answer was given without interruption. The difference is in perspective of what immigration reform looks like, as I stated in my initial comment. "They disagree on what is not working. The left believes it's broken because we do not have the immigration courts and detention centers available to carry out our immigration and asylum process in a timely manner. Republicans think the process broken because they think our immigration laws specifically asylum is a loophole in the law that allows them all to just claim asylum and stay for the long process without qualifying." That and Republicans want all spending to just keeping everyone out, and not fix the back log problem.
