  2.  @Futurecop23  That is your explanation? The compass senses the horizontal component of the magnetic field (which is completely horizontal on the equator, by the way) so yes, they still work fine. Of course there is a latitude above which they are NOT reliable, right because the horizontal component of the magnetic field becomes too weak to be sensed. Which proves exactly the opposite. And this also proves that the less you know, the more you talk.

  3. What... What exactly would your "experiment" demonstrate? Tilt the compass? Doesn't the needle align itself with the magnetic North? I don't think you know what you are talking about here...
