Just because they're not as democratic doesn't mean they can't gain in influence
5
If Russia is willing to pay more than the customers in those countries they'll still get access to those goods
5
What also matches WW1: the attacker (in that case Germany) initially thinking it would be a quick victory (against France) because of lack of support (by back then thinking Russia would be too slow to mobilize). Now the irony that in the case it's Russia doing the miscalculation
5
OPEC's whole point of existence is to take power from the oil consumers
5
Maybe so that potentially new users don't click on that instead of using their sign up link
5
Not fully true here, they're still Russians after all. Such problems are more common if the mercenaries fight for other countries without having any gain other than money
4
White wolf but at the same time they know exactly what to say to make it seem like it's the wrong course of action even if they knew it's legit. Few people better at right wording than a lawyer
4
I don't think that's really the reason. I think it's rather other countries not wanting to create such controls, like a universal adapter would hurt apple's profitability, more data privacy would hurt many US companies, etc. The EU on the other hand, consisting of so many countries having many small differences would rather harmonize for better efficiency in the market
4
@michaekrynicki8330 they basically overestimated the number of pro Russian Ukrainians. And more so didn't expect that a lot of pro Russian Ukrainians wouldn't support the attack by Russia
4
I don't think you can compare Finland and Switzerland at all in regards to neutrality. Finland used to choose that position out of practical reasons, not wanting to anger either side, which it is stuck between. Switzerland on the other hand hasn't had a problematic neighbor for decades and could have chosen to stop being neutral but its neutrality has given it many perks at this point which it wants to keep
3
I'd assume the west has more than Russia and supplying allies
3
I don't think you have to get so deep into explaining the history to explain why turkey wasn't exactly fit for NATO
3
It lacks a lot of things that make it a state.
3
I don't want my money to be more than "bland"
3
it's not that easy. blindly sanctioning without a strategy might just give Russia bigger power over them
3
I'm pretty sure a long term unemployed person won't be paid as much as a retiree. If what you say plays out then it's effectively a reduction of social security spending, not just a plain numbers game
3
@patrickstar5136 you could say post Crimea annexation was a frozen conflict. But if that happens again that probably just means that Russia will try to attack again in the future when it's in a better position again
3
Not so much danger if you can't get attacked without crossing NATO states first
3
That's assuming that the Russians won't start buying up the washing machines, etc. that were meant for the citizens of those countries.
2
@randomlygeneratedname7171 All sanctions against Russia have hurt western companies too, that's just part of the deal. Economic sanctions can only be done if there was trade and with trade being interfered with, both sides get hurt, the hope here being it hurting Russia more (given their smaller and generally weaker/less diversified economy)
2
I didn't notice until reading your comment
2
This seems to be some pro Russian propaganda with no regards to reality. Just something very simple so you don't need to think and maybe start questioning if the claim is true. Typical right wing rhetorics
2
@ravanpee1325 that doesn't answer the question in relation to what OP said
2
B.R.I.C.S. are bricked
2
Is it free market capitalism if it's state sponsored?
2
If they take apart washing machines they'll take apart components and remove what's making the devices disable themselves
2
Those don't make up a big enough amount in the total so are insignificant and be ignored
2
The Austrian freedom party is/was close to Putin, so walking out with that explanation by then is questionable
2
you should have watched the video before commenting
2
@VampiricDalmatian Stagnation is the right word. If it's shrinking it's not stagnation
2
That's cruel. Many killed Russians didn't want any part of it
2
@rappakalja5295 appeasing Russia (once again) is so stupid. It didn't prevent Putin from going further, as neither it helped preventing war with appeasing Hitler. These types of people just take it as weakness and sign to pressure further
2
@Javlafan violation of trust in power for personal gains also counts as corruption, it doesn't have to be straight up illegal
2
Attacking a NATO member isn't something they'd just randomly do on their own
2
Who needs to be able to read the word Euro in their writing system to be able to use it as a currency?
2
Eastern Germany got occupied and practically wasn't autonomous. Autonomous Germany (which was the western part) just retook control over the eastern part and eastern Germany could take part in govering by democracy. Both North Korea and south Korea have their own autonomous government. A union means either war or both governments coming together which seems highly unlikely given the ideologies are incompatible
1
@nostromo2244 the UK was not misled. They knew exactly what they were doing
1
The US usually refuses regulation for the economy's sake
1
Proven by the brain drain from Russia to the west. Truely, Russia is the one prospering here
1
I don't get why getting into EU would increase peace? All the fighting seems to have always been over ethnic tensions and not caused by a lack of economic development
1
The FPÖ basically just opposes on principle without giving an alternative solution when not in power and when in power getting involved in corruption scandals and not really improving anything for the main demographic they target
1
That's not hard to achieve. Politicians have to enact multiple policies and each one has a risk of earning them disapproval because of it
1
@tomorrowneverdies567 countries like Germany are the reason. After the Euro crisis there's some level of financial support in case a country comes close to default because one county defaulting can cause big problems, that was made apparent after Greece got into debt troubles
1
@Hardcore_Remixer thing is in case of people like Orban using it it doesn't mean the same, the selection of people is different. Besides that, he doesn't want immigrants going into Hungary because they mainly want to go through Hungary and not stay in it and if Hungarians see that they realize how bad of a job he does
1
I don't get why people think Putin would stage a fake coup to be able to get an attack from the north when he'd lose face in the process; especially since it didn't work out the first time where the Ukraine forces weren't in war mode
1
But we can't be sure what they lie about, so just assuming the opposite is wrong too
1
@Ar1AnX1x how is it bragging? There's plenty of such places in Austria which means it doesn't have to be very expensive
1
@goyakat2211 my point still stands. It might have been long ago but it might start a trend
1
I didn't know about the banning but it seems it was because of links to Russia
1
That's a risky move, one country having to leave might cause another to slide, causing a domino effect. The EU is tightly integrated and you can't just remove members without affecting others
