  1. The "don't get into a stranger's car" was actually politically motivated and there weren't actually that many incidents that it was justified. Just up to that point people were hitchhiking all the time. I think at that point it was mainly hippie leaning people who did it while most middle class could afford a car and the conservatives one just drove on their own. So the conservatives basically just cracked down on left leaning. Similar things were with weed and crack, which were targeted because they were common with Mexicans (weed) and blacks (crack) while the more expensive cocaine which is simply put uncooked crack got less punishment because it was consumed mainly by white upper class

  2. They're trying to focus more on getting dominant than being profitable, worked out well for Amazon for example
