  6. That's not necessarily true. It's not rare that a company could make an improvement but doing so would throw out previous investments in production capacities/require getting employees to learn the new way etc, and then it's often a new company which breaks this cycle. For example traditional car makers were very reluctant to go big scale on electric cars because all the factories weren't made to produce that and they have high optimization in gas/diesel engines but would need to start from scratch with electric cars. Only when Tesla came around and actually made a lot of electric cars was when they actually started to care about it
