  1. The Chinese have this belief that living in a previous owners stuff is bad and so it doesn't make sense to renovate because they'll replace it anyways

  2.  @mizutofu  you do own it tho, you can do what you want with it over generations, taxes don't change that. And those taxes are basically not charging you for your property but for your usage of the infrastructure and other services around it, which aren't free to maintain
