  2. It kinda makes sense they got more popular. Nowadays a nation attacking another for no reason isn't seen as a thing that's allowed, so you delegate the fighting and thus blame to someone else

  4. If you look back in history it's actually uncommon to have a state funded standing army. Even Germany had private paramilitaries before ww2
