I haven't read many books so I guess I can't really compare, but primo levi's two books about surviving ausch°°°z 3 describe this is much detail. he was extremely adamant about centering the experience of starvation as largely shutting down people's higher social and intellectual functioning, and pitting inmates against each other in competition over unsurvivable food rations.
