  1. actually fennecs don't have those big ears because they need them to hearprey underfroune - other apecies can hear plenty good with wmaller ears. red and arctic foxes hear rodents under snow well enough to pounce directly on them. fennecs have big ears because those add skin surface that helps to cool down the body as blood circulated through it. animals from hotter places have big ears (elephants, painted dogs), and animals from cold places have small ears (wolves, arctic foxes). I think with canines it's particularly noticeable because they're otherwise very similar.
