different cats have very different personalities. some cats (I think males in particular) do mean stuff like sneak up on you from behind or approach from the front pretending to want to be pet just to bite you. and most cats seem to do the belly rub trap. xD cats tend to on average be a bit more headstrong in enforcing their personal space than dogs. you need to show them that you can be trusted not to touch them without their permission (also very important for your son to know). the same really also applies to dogs as well as most other animals, but the percentage of dogs who won't mind you being rude is higher than the percentage of cats.

huh? where do shelters euthanize healthy friendly kittens? wouldn't those normally be at the bottom of the list?

dogs>cats, but this cat is not dog-like (except maybe if he walks particularly well on leash, which the video didn't show).

@iwillstealbradyandlockhimi3523 even cats that like to walk on leash typically don't do it like dogs. they don't heel and they don't tend to walk long distances, they just go around investigating and expect the human to follow.

@TheDiner50 livestock guardian dogs are bred to live and work largely independently of humans. but they make bad pets because of it, because they have a really strong tendency to make their own judgment calls on who to threaten or attack, and are a lot less interested in human guidance or approval than other dogs.

@estibon3872 I disagree. it has nothing to do with hunting, and with some cats, it is genuinely mean-spirited. what I mean is more bullying than playing.
