  1. firefighters don't fight fires or risk their lives daily. most of their calls are much more mundane, and many are cutting stuff open like doors or wrecked cars to get to trapped people. or, which must happen a whole lot in the US, firefighters assist paramedics in transporting morbidly obese patients. firefighters are awesome, but their job title doesn't really describe their usual work.
