the most common reason for these views is a sort of christian fundamentalism that very strongly asserts "family values" as one of the greatest moral goods, and what they mean by that is an absolutist authority hierarchy within the family in which the wife is below husband, and the children are below both parents. those in superior positions, by being good christians, are bestowed with their authority by god. their authority goes as far as dictating what is or isn't true, and what is holy or conversely what is of the devil. the children or women being dictated to are forbidden from disagreeing, the only mechanism that's supposed to ensure that fathers don't ab°se their authority are supposed to be god's guidance and judgement - theoretically mostly through their "personal relationship with jesus christ", but in practice of course that means that their community enforces to some degree the adherence to the doctrine of their church denomination and the guidance of their pastor. if you want to look up american christian child ab°se ideology, a good search term is "quiverfull". and the youtube channel fundie fridays is quite recommendable if you like to listen to long form commentary monologues.

@kimberlyhovis5864 and nobody made that claim. yeah no sh°° it's not all judges, it's unconstitutional to issue judgements based on religious rules. only the law is the law.
