I'm kinda surprised that this antivenom and others are still generally produced biologically to such a high degree - not chemically synthesizing, not even using cell cultures, but actually using large numbers of living venom-producing animals, and then living antibody-producing animals. just how chemically complex are those antibodies? 😮 I know vaccines can be made similarly, but most production there has moved away from using live animals towards more efficient methods like bioreactors (or, for a long time already, chicken eggs). is the difference mostly that demand for antivenoms is orders of magnitude smaller than for vaccines, so they don't get the necessary investment to develop the specific processes to produce each type of antivenom in more modern ways? or are antivenoms actually chemically more complex than vaccines?
