  1. actually the modern disunity of afghanistan was mostly kicked off during thesoviet occupation and the US- and saudi-supported jihadist insurgency against them. and I'm pretty sure that until a while before that (some military coup activity and a transition to some sort of republic), afghanistan was a pretty stable kingdom for like 2-300 years. poor as hell, but no civil war. afghanistan is what it is today because it is a casualty of the cold war, and tgen of the war on terror, so it's two responsibility points to the US and one to the soviet union. though it is worth pointing out that the soviet-afghan war killed waaaaaaaay more people than the NATO invasion and occupation, that was a really horrible war.
