addition: if natural gas does manage to remain cheap, that's not just good for heating in europe, but especially for european industry. here in germany, a huge portion of the economy is dependant on the gas price, because so much of germany's economy is industrial production of chemical and metal products that require a whole lot of energy, often directly using natural gas in the factory (which used to be an extremely cheap source of heat). cheap natural gas from russia was responsible for growing the german economy for the past 20+ years (at times, germany had the world's highest total value of exports) and we developed a massive dependency on russian gas specifically for our industry. german industry is why germany has so often tried to reduce and delay support to ukraine throughout this war.
