  2. same thing in the arctic regions of canada and alaska. other than gold and eventually oil, people mostly went there to trap fur animals. I think in north america beavers may have been the main target species. mammals in cold climate grow dense, soft fur, and some of them grow white coats in the winter that I assume would sell for even more.
