I'm a bit surprised that much shorter coconut palms aren't already the norm, it seems like the domestication of the coconut is lagging behind in modernisation compared to many other food crops there. I would consider it to be mostly beneficial for harvesting, especially climbing but also pole-cutting, but it would also simplify most harvesting machinery one might try to develop (because making the machine less tall makes it less prone to falling over). more western common fruit like apples, oranges and peaches have been mostly grown short for easy harvesting for probably well over 100 years, especially for mechanical harvesting, and those don't even get as tall as coconut palms anyway. grapes have been grown short since forever. of course it is trickier with palms because you can't just cut them shorter, since they're incapable of branching out, but grains, which as grasses are more related to palms, have also been bred to grow much shorter (I think barley in particular), as this way they grow more grain and less straw while being relatively resistant to wind damage. use of synthetic plant hormones to shorten stalks is also common (that's how they make those super short potted sunflowers you can buy for decoration).

1:02 jesus f**king christ PLEASE at least put a cover around that wheel with just an opening where it's used! that's the barest minimum of work safety effort, it would reduce the risk of injury from that thing by probably 80%+ and risk of death by 100% (as it is, it absolutely could kill somebody, either by tearing into their skull, or through blood loss after more or less removing an arm), while not impeding the function at all. it's not even a callous exchange of work safety in favour of efficiency, it's just a total disregard for safety for no reason!

probably not. apparently, palms have no cambium and do not grow in trunk diameter once they start shooting upwards. grafting of other plants, mostly dicots, is done on very small areas, either thin branches or even just branch buds, because the xylem has little to no ability to fuse. instead the cambium fuses, and then grows later layers continuously and solidly, making the inadequately fused original xylem obsolete. you never graft a whole trunk. one thing that very likely would work are stalk-shortening synthetic plant hormones that are already used on both monocots like grains, and dicots like those super short potted sunflowers you can buy for decoration.

I looked it up, apparently most coconut lineages occurring today are considered domesticated for thousands of years, and they include particularly clearly domesticated "dwarf" cultivars, which still grow very tall (15-30m), but begin to produce fruit at a younger age and shorter height than others.

@Joe-sg9ll this is not snowboarding, it's industrial machinery. we have very good data on safety measures for industrial machinery. what I'm suggesting is the equivalent of a top cover on a table saw, which is proven to be very beneficial. look up or shut up, yes?

@gsastudio-archl coconut oil is also known to be the chemically best oil with which to make boiled cannabis oil infusions for edibles, because the cannabinoid extraction and bioavailability works best with saturated fats, and coconut oil is almost entirely composed of those (which is why conversely it can be viewed as problematic to consume in large quantities, as saturated fats are the unhealthy ones). even butter fat is not as highly saturated, though that also works well as the standard fat for that purpose.
