  1. you can actually pet bumblebees way more carelessly than that. they only sting if you pinch or hold them, otherwise they ignore people completely. honeybees are very slightly less friendly but basically the same unless you come within a few meters of their hives. wasps are a different story entirely, they'll quickly switch to threat display or aggression if you annoy them, and they will guard both their hives and major resources and flight paths elsewhere (they're basically americans).
