  5. it would be a much more specific and complex substance to produce than in yellow tice (what is it? beta-carotine?), but of course plants are very good at making a huge range of complex chemicals naturally, which is why there are so many traditional medicines and drugs made from plants, as well as various poisons. in principle it makes all the sense in the world to use plants to synthesize complex chemicals.
