  4. it does still happen. however a much bigger concern nowadays than death is long covid, as the chances for long covid have not decreased as much as the chances to die between earlier covid variants and omicron, and we have good methods now to treat acute covid illness, but hardly anything to treat long covid. vaccines also protect more against death than against long covid. mostly old people should still be worried about dying from it. young people are more likely to get long covid. also there of course is the issue that china's healthcare system is definitely going to be overloaded enough to cause dramatic decreases in healthcare quality. not just for covid, but probably even more significantly for all other hoapital care (like for common much more individually harmful things like heart attacks, strokes, cancers, organ failures, traumatic injuries etc).
