  2. to be clear, the CSTO wasnot committed to defending artsakh because none of those states recognised it as territory of armenia. russia individually did have some limited "peacekeeping" commitment, but not to defend artsakh. that commitment was mostly broken by russia not opposing azerbaijan's blockade, as russia was supposed to keep the lachin corridor open. the CSTO common defense agreement with armenia on the other hand was broken by russia and all other members about a year ago, when azerbaijan did attack and invade some recognised parts of armenia - armenia officially requested help and got crickets.
