  1. that sounds like a near perfect solution. the only thing I wonder is if it could be done with less energy by reducing or omitting the boiling. I think the need for single use food containers and other packaging (especially if it's also useful for shipping packages) might be big enough to fully replace the burning of rice straw, which would make a significant difference to people's health across the region. using rice straw and rice starch instead of plastic for food containers replaces non-biodegradable toxic trash with very easily biodegradable trash and ultimately keeps a little bit more oil in the ground. to be most climate-friendly one should note however that ultimately letting the stuff rot somewhere could perhaps be more harmful to the climate than burning it, depending on how much methane is produced during decomposition. so as with other trash, leaving it scattered in the environment or in landfills is inferior to burning it for energy.
