  2. "deutsch" is an endonym, "german" is a roman exonym. some other languages also still call us alemanni, which is kinda like if we called the people living in the hypothetically not submerged territory of today's netherlands "holländer" 1500 years in the future.

  4. that's the country equivalent of the twitter name change. changing the name the rest of the world is supposed to call the world's most populous country from the name that probably the vast majority of humans know to a conpletely different word that nobody outside of the country has EVER heard would be bizarre! I would guess that "india" has 70% global name recognition. "bharat" has 0% name recognition. eswatini - fine türkiye - how about no? bharat - wtf is wrong with you?
