I think I remember a news report saying that the well is 30m deep. he only landed at the bottom alive because he scraped and bounced along the sides of the well, slowing his fall. I'd say it's quite unusual that he survived for almost five days instead of dying for example from internal bleeding earlier. in a hole that deep and narrow, air exchange and oxygen access are also a big problem, though I would guess that the rescue workers probably pumped air from the top to the bottom through a hose. given how long it took to dig the tunnel (and how risky it was), what they probably would have needed was for somebody to quickly build a camera-guided robotic device to put some kind of harness around his chest and shoulders to pull him up by rope. I'm guessing he was too injured to put one on himself.
