@VoltaireVoltaire-zq4zh I agree about germany needing to provide more support, but france has arguably been slightly worse than germany.

@nerrler5574 arming ukraine to defend itself against russia's aggression promotes peace. war paying off causes more wars. making military aggression unprofitable prevents wars.

@VoltaireVoltaire-zq4zh france's military is a lot more powerful than germany's with more equipment to spare. and france doesn't have nearly as good of an excuse as germany to try to play nice with russia, as france's dependence on russian fossil fuels is tiny compared to germany's. germany has the capacity to help a lot by authorising transfers of german-made weapons, but even though it doesn't own them, it is still going to get half the blame because it evidently has the power to decide not to authorise the transfers. the chancellor's choices are ridiculous though - treating MARS rocket launchers and PzH-2000 as if they were "lighter weapons" than marder or leopard 2. 🤦

@VoltaireVoltaire-zq4zh right, france has a colonizer military. what that means is that it has a bigger military. all countries claim to have as much military equipment as they do because that's just how much they need. france has more stock than germany, whereas germany might have more production (but exports a bigger percentage, because unlike france, germany isn't still playing empire).

@SurfinScientist honestly, I think the german putin appeasers of the socdem party or otherwise are hoping to be rewarded by putin if, preferably soon, the war ends positively for russia, and germany impeding ukraine to some degree helped russia. they want that gas supply back, and still hope for things to return to normal.

he's saying it like that mostly because in german, it always has the article. even ukraine's ambassadors to germany say it with the article in german, so in german, there really is no debate. what's a bit more strange I suppose is that also nobody around here has been told that we're all pronouncing kyiv the russian way. xD also the terminology in english long predates soviet times, it's from when ukraine really wasn't a country, when it was a region of the russian empire. during soviet times, ukraine was officially its own country, the ukrainian socialist soviet republic.
