  1. generally sound reasoning, but I think this mostly is not news to thai people. they know that the military and monarchy intervening in and overruling what little democratic governance they intermittently allow is the normal state of thai politics. in its 90 years as a constitutional monarchy, thailand has had 13 successful coups and 9 attempts. even at more democratic times, the entire upper house of parliament is fully officially nominated by the military - thai laws don't even try to hide the military's role as a political institution with universal veto powers. and of course all political power granted to a military, however formal or informal, is based on an acknowledgement of the threat of force of a military as a rogue actor rather than a subservient enforcer of the state, which is how we see our militaries in countries not used to coups.
