  1. avocados are a good example. the vast majority of avocados eaten in the US come from mexico, so when avocados became very trendy in the US (very large volumes, very high prices), avocado production became a very big business in mexico. so much so that the cartels decided to get involved, and now they tax avocado farmers as much as they can so that only the cartels get richer, and the farmers are back to just getting by instead of being able to profit from doing legal work in a valuable economic sector. and everybody in the avocado growingregions suffers now from the cartel turf wars and common commission of crimes against civilians by the cartel members

  2. the US already have the DEA and FBI operating in mexico, they don't need to involve the army.
