  6. eritrea conducts a program of surveillance and threats towards eritreans living abroad in order to suppress opposition activity that could threaten the regime, as do other dictatorships like china, rwanda, and saudi arabia. probably most commonly, they threaten to punish friends and family remaining in eritrea, and of course if the person has any property in eritrea, that can be threatened. for those eritreans still on reasonably good terms with the government, the threats may include not being allowed to leave the country again if they return.
