  1. given the lack of difficulty shouldering this gun that ian pointed out, I suspect that the barrel is very thin. I'm guessing that shooting birdshot (or any shot) builds significantly less pressure in the barrel due to the lack of a gas seal.

  2. in germany we have an expression for figurative overkill that is "to shoot cannons at sparrows" (mit kanonen auf spatzen schießen). it seems like that could actually be a slightly exaggerated pejorative description of punt gun hunting.
