  1. why does it look like it was used, covered in dirt, and then had its wood refinished all AFTER the whole modification process, if this was almost a one-off prototype and was never issued for military use? the metal also looks quite a bit like dirt and wear from use, but particularly the wood including the pistol grip (so it can't be dirt from pre-modification use) clearly show a layer of dark dirt covered by lacquer. well, the dirt partially doesn't quite look like normal usage dirt and more like bad storage dirt, in that there is a lot more of it on one side than on the other. but I would say that it looks like the gun was used a bit more than just to try if it would work between that point when it gathered that dirt and the point where that dirt got so hideously covered in lacquer.
