  1. weird how much they made high quality walnut wood look like molded plastic with that combination of high gloss finish on complex partially concave surfaces (much harder to sand and polish well than convex surfaces) with the raised checkered patch in the middle - a rather inconvenient design to carve and sand out of wood, which therefor looks fake. but some closeup views here show the directional reflection (chatoyance) of the wood's fibrous cell structure, which no fake wood and certainly no molded material would manage to imitate.
