I generally don't like seeing beech wood on guns, like on the post-war example, but thatfinish looks pretty nice. looks heavily oiled too, which is probably a good thing because the problem witg beech wood is that, while very cheap for hardwood and reasonable hare and tough, it is one of the most heavily shrinkingand warpingwood types. the most effective way to get rid of that problem wod be to cut the wood relatively closely to final size, andthen store it dry as many years as possible, because withlong seasoning, the sood's reactiveness to moisture changes decreases, and the ,ears-long shrinkage process peogresses and slows down, and when cut close to final size, any internal stresses from differential shrinkage resolve themselves by warping the wood before it's cut into final shape. but it certainly doesn't hurt to oil it deeply when finishing, both to harden thesurface and to create somewhat of a moisture barrier.
