7:36 they should have been wired so they’re fault tolerant. One of our towers had half of a beacon fail, but the other half was still working.
2
Oof. It was brutal back on the 3rd lol. I had been moving the week prior. I blame my mom since she came up to help…from Arizona.
2
10:52 hahahaha I was ironically just driving over there like…a half-hour ago lol. Love the DMV office down in South Saint Paul vs. the one in StP proper. Lol.
2
23:34 oh…dominos. Wah wah wah wah waaaaaaaaaah
2
4:18 I thought it was a RFU not a remote lol. And that’s kinda awesome that you got that PTZ unit. Looks a lot like what we use even to this day in the studio. Also, it’s likely that it IS just serial but with a weird connector. I was sure the documentation would be online. Those things usually are. Or they’re reverse engineer able. Lol. Our engineers have done that before. Anyway, I’m not sure it’s outdoor rated fyi.
2
Man! I wanna know how you find all this kinda stuff! This is neat! ‘course I remember dumpster diving / garbage picking in the 90s when you used to be able to find good electronics. Like once we found…a crap ton of PS/2 systems.
2
There’s like no nodes over on my side of StP. At least not that I’ve been able to hit. Granted I have a not so good setup.
2
Oh maaaannn. I wish I could take you up to the IDS rooftop. You’d love it up there! Though, might be able to snag you a tour of our studio. Lol.
2
Was that looking at the 10th Ave. bridge rebuild they did a while back?
2
Nice! That’s a neat little gadget. I need to scour Axman again lol. Also I want one of those Model 100s. They are LEGENDARY in journalism circles. I keep trying to pry the one we found in a storage room away from engineering lol. It’s likely headed to ewaste when one of our engineers retires. (It’s in his little museum.) Maybe I can snag it then lol. Also sounds like it’s time to mod it lol.
2
The dish must have come from like KSTP or something lol. I don’t think we’ve pulled one off the roof. Or Ch. 23 when they abandoned the building on Como.
1
@saveitforparts oh ha! Never thought about a cable community station lol.
1
21:41 that’s a lot on your pizza!!! Also what’s your fav place around here? Mine is Parkway in the Longfellow neighborhood over on Minnehaha.
1
@saveitforparts BOOOOOO! I guess being in Highland Park, StP spoils me a bit, eh? Also Luce is solid pizza. We get them quite a bit at WCCO. Something, something, they'll deliver at 2am lol.
1
Have you ever dug through the U's surplus store?
1
@saveitforparts haven’t been in ages but it was pretty dang good picking. I actually picked up a classic Mac there!

@archloy https://youtube.com/shorts/qeAS4ayAZyI?si=pODT3XyAvz-f9q30
1
Eh they won’t show up. SPPD is really understaffed and only respond to “important” things these days.
1
I stopped using CL’s DNS.
1
@rockdaddio69 still there! Franklin at 35W!
1
@saveitforparts right?! It so so much fun. And then they conveniently forget how to do road work in the Spring when the roads look like Swiss cheese.
1
We have military surplus stores? Not just places like AxMan?!
1
@ didn’t even know Fleet Farm had done that. Especially since like the nearest one is what Lakeville? Just off the 35E/W split.
1
Oh hey. I recognize that abandoned track. And I believe it was in use up till the Ford plant closed. And TBH 13 years in St. Paul and I don’t think I’ve ever seen a train on there either lol. Also where did you hear bike path? I thought it was still being considered for a potential 7th St. LRT.
1
@saveitforparts wait…I’m shocked. Ugh. Just what we need. More overpriced apartments. gestures towards the site of the old ford plant
1
@ I remember being confused by it when I drove past lol.
1
@saveitforparts what are you missing? I have a parts breadbin on hand if you need chips. Not sure how much of them work as I got it with another system I bought with the note it was a parts machine.
1
Also what radio do you have in your car?
1
6:52 there’s no external ac jack on that meter?! The funny part is we tune either by ear or an oscilloscope.
1
@ the one we had in the old terminal room had a meter and a buzzer. The buzz would get louder or softer as the bird was tuned in. And I believe it looked at the middle of whatever bird we were on. Then again, we have motorized dishes and we can recall presets. We just used the meter to fine tune.
1
Is it wrong I kind of want to dig through that obsolete radio box lol?
1
@gaspumprepairservice7009 hahahahahahahahahaha Granted…I live in the same city as he does so there’s that lol.
1
I like the new look. Though I think the primary lighting on you, the desk, and the cats needs tweaking. You’re dark in comparison to the background.
1
1:06 Eustis over 94? 1:11 94 in StP?
1
@saveitforparts shocking. I used to drive 94 between the downtowns before I moved and…I never saw them fixing those ones. But the one at 94 & 280. All. The. Time.
1
I think you should be able to mitigate the noise somehow. I mean…RADAR antennas are able to, so why not radio telescopes?
1
10:18 try moving in that weather. It SUCKED. (At least I assume it’s that Minnesota heatwave lol.)
1
@saveitforparts i hate that. I had issues like that when I lived in Downtown StP. People didn't want to deliver down there. I usually had to resort to DoorDash to get things.
1
Don’t forget about Veronica from Veronica Explains!
1
13:23 order a completed board from PCBWay?
1
@ you could do as Action Retro says “totally normal computer shenanigans” with it lol
