RIP the 6 broadcast engineers who rode the north tower down while keeping their transmitters on until the very last second.

Q101 was based in the Mart. Originally up in the historic studios but by the time I toured their studios they were just above the El station as I recall. I’m not sure where they are now but I believe they moved after the station was sold to the owners of WLS. But yes back in the day, that is where Mancow would have broadcast from. Btw those historic studios were also the original studios of WMAQ-TV until they moved in the late-80’s to the NBC Tower. (WMAQ AM did move at that time too, but WKQX did not.)

@yooper6161 I live on the Saint Paul side of the river and commute into Minneapolis. It’s perfectly ok to visit. Just like in every city, there are certain areas that are worse than others.

Still do. But we tend to use cell-based backpacks now.

It’s so different over there now! The falls were the farthest north you could navigate on the Mississippi. And the Washburn Crosby Co. (Gold Medal Flower) is directly related to 2 of the city’s broadcast stations… WCCO Radio and Television.

@sonyasever7625 there were six transmitter engineers for the various NYC stations who worked in the WTC. All of them who were there died in the attack.

1. Thank you for contributing to call LSD and the Sears by their proper names. As a native of northern Illinois I refuse to call them by any other name. Especially since my dad’s address is on the inner drive. 2. George Floyd’s death was a murder. It’s not an incident. The officer who killed him has been tried and convicted. Believe me…I direct news in Minneapolis, and directed the entirety of coverage of the trial of the officer.

“…think twice before getting off at Division” I yelled at my GPS once because it told me to get off the Bishop Ford in Bronzeville (admittedly near IIT) to get on surface streets over to LSD to get up to my dad’s place which is off the Belmont exit on LSD. (We we’re heading from a wedding in Ohio back to Minneapolis…but I’m originally from the Chicago ‘burbs.)

Heads up. They actually removed the microwave antennas from the Quest/CenturyLink/Lumen tower in DT Minneapolis a few years ago.
