  1. I lived in a food insecure family as a child, and it greatly affected me (and still does). To learn of this, and witness the testimony and videos of these people and their plight hurts my soul. Whether I agree or not with whatever ideology is irrelevant- human suffering is human suffering. May those affected find better times, and may those no longer with us find peace.

  2.  @Mcchrs  Absolutely. I think at least one other person misunderstood me on that. I'm trying to keep the focus on the people affected and not on an evil ideology that has cost millions of lives globally. I'm no friend of that ideology, and never have been. But I empathize with the people living under it, and the suffering they went/go through. I guess I worry the ideology tends to eclipse the plight of the people who suffer[ed] under it.

As I fly my American flag on this Independence Day, and watch these videos of brave American servicemen who sacrificed everything, I will say prayers not only for those who sacrificed for our Independence, but also for the men who protected not only the U.S., but the world from the axis forces. Surely, I would not exist without them, or I would be enslaved as a native American under rule of the axis powers. I owe them, and indeed all Allied veterans a debt which could never be repaid. God bless you all, and may those no longer with us rest easy in HIS Arms.

I'm not in that position anymore [whether you want to call it starving or food insecure- food insecurity being the proper/technical term, I don't care; it's all the same]. And my experience [as well as that of my siblings] was very real, and doesn't need your endorsement. As for ideology, it does play a role, but as I stated in an earlier post, ideology tends to overshadow the tragedy that befalls the common person who cares little to nothing for ideology [they're too busy just surviving]. But think whatever way helps you sleep at night.
