Very weird video won't show the slaves that weren't black. There were plenty of white slaves, and slaves of other ethnicities (natives, etc.). Thomas Sowell has a great video on this, which also explains slavery was not unique to America, not in the slightest. It was actually the status quo, which is why the Republican party of the time was considered a reformer/progressive party (or "radical" as some would call it). And there were plenty of slaves in the North, they (the people that divide North and South primarily on slavery) just conveniently seldom mention it. To give full disclosure, I believe slavery is wrong in every way regardless of who is "master" and who is slave. No person is greater than another. I am a native American in the Pacific Northwest, whose ancestors were never near a battlefield, nor took any side in those times, as the State I'm in wasn't even a State back then.

@chanceeffect5589 Check out the Sowell video, or most any source(s) on the subject- there were most certainly white slaves, particularly of Irish heritage. Appreciate your comment.

@lostedge7852 While I'm not doubting that statistic, I would enjoy reading or watching the source that gave you that statistic (sincerely, I mean that). My understanding (which by no means is complete) of what the civil war was about, is that it was not really about any one thing/issue, and it depended on who was answering the question of what the civil war was about in the first place. In other words, if you asked 20 different people at the time, you'd likely get 20 different answers with varying overlap as to why the civil war took place. Additionally, what I've researched indicates that the civil war was focused into the issue of slavery vs no slavery when the Union feared defeat at the hands of the CSA, and the potential interference of other nations which relied on trade with the CSA (As opposed to just saying "State's rights to legislate the issue versus the Republic's right to supersede such legislation"). @wheelchairlife8926 Yes, and there were non-black slaves in America during the period before and leading up to the civil war. That was the point of my post. Why this is so controversial is somewhat astonishing.

@wheelchairlife8926 Why, because you say so? Don't tell Irish immigrants that. They remember their history as well as we natives. The intellectual capacity of people replying reminds me of holocaust deniers or people that deny slavery existed at all. Again- astonishing.

@wheelchairlife8926 You can call it that, but in practice that isn't what happened. Just as when the natives were promised everything west of the Appalachian, then everything west of the Mississippi, then nothing but remnants of their former lands. Again, the Irish remember, and so do we.
