  7. Stev Wood No a patriot does not follow his/her chain of Command if it is an unlawful order or against society and the Constitution. The pledge a soldier takes is very specific on that. An Officers Pledge is as follows: "I, ___ having been appointed an officer in the Army of the United States, as indicated above in the grade of ___ do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic, that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office upon which I am about to enter; So help me God." Notice that the officer is pledging to defend the Constitution - not a president. These words are chosen very carefully to avoid a rouge - or treasonous - President from using the military to takeover the country.
