"a string of faux pearls" not genuine; fake or false. "their faux concern for the well-being of the voters didn't fool many" Or as in Fox News is Faux News - as in Fake News. The joke is that if you pronounce the x you get fox, if you know that that the French do not pronounce the x you get fō. Therefore, the foe is the Russians and the Faux ( fō ) news is Fox. I know you thought you had something going here, but you outsmarted yourself.
