  4.  @Trill-Is-Real  As a Young Lad I didn’t care about history, how simple and over glorified Columbus was. In College if it wasn’t a Business Class it wasn’t worthy of my time. After College I watched a docu-drama on Napoleon and wondered how he fit into my sanitized understanding of American history. I found history ugly, messy, full of plot twists and competing ideas and powers. The history books I started to read were not sanitized and did not seek to glorify or denigrate anyone or any country but to help the reader understand the conditions that produced the history. After literally 567 History Books later, I am still learning. In summary, the history of slavery is brutal and a dark mark upon America’s past and should be taught as such. America was not the first into the slavery game but we were the biggest of the last of the era of slavery. Teach real history guts, buts, feathers, and all and make history interesting.

  11.  @qontoh2s872  Though there is some soft touchy-feely classes out there, what DeSantis is objecting to is Black History. He is not the first but a long line of Southerners who want to bury the past or at least sanitize or revision it. Perhaps you were taught about the “War of Northern Aggression” or the “Lost and Glorious Cause” or the “War of States Rights” in Florida, Texas, Georgia, etc.? Need I say more?
