  1. LONDON — Lawmakers in Scotland are demanding that the government investigate Donald Trump and the Trump Organization to learn the source of the funds used to purchase a pair of golf courses.
The Scottish Parliament is scheduled to debate and vote Wednesday on a motion to press First Minister of Scotland Nicola Sturgeon to seek an “unexplained wealth order” from the courts, which would require the Trump Organization to reveal how the company financed the purchases of the Turnberry and Aberdeen golf resorts.
An unexplained wealth order, if sought by Sturgeon and granted by the courts, would trigger an accounting investigation. It is not a criminal proceeding. But if the Trump Organization could not satisfy the courts that the money was clean, the Scottish government could seek to confiscate the properties.
The mechanism was designed to keep money launderers, mafia types, international criminals, and Russian Oligarchs from making large investments in Scotland with dirty money.
