ptegegn1 Say what you want about Gendo. He took on the world for his objective, with little outside help. He didn't sit around waiting for others to fix his problems. He solved them in the most direct and effective manner possible. The point is that the US had the best education system in the world up until the liberals got involved. The simple reality is that not everyone should get a higher education. Not everyone is capable of it. Just like not everyone is capable of being a star athlete or a crack mechanic. When you take the financial side out of it, you wind up with society footing the bill for people who are too lazy to work and too stupid to study something productive.

DFandV Except that you don't have an inherent right to take money from others at legal gunpoint. That's called armed robbery.

DFandV Except that taxes are supposed to pay for things that everyone uses. (Roads, cops, fire department, the military) I paid almost $200,000 USD for my education. Interestingly, I had zero problems paying it back. Why are the brits whining about paying barely a third of that? Could it be that they are going to university to learn things that are not worth a university education?

DFandV Yeah... Life is not fair. But please, tell me all about the "privilege" I enjoyed by spending the majority of my early life in a podunk village in the back woods of Russia which didn't even have running water in most homes. I fail to see how it is my responsibility to pay for some spoiled liberal brat to spend five years in school getting a degree in underwater basketweaving. Only to be insulted as "greedy" because I dare to want to keep the majority of what I earn to provide for my family instead of paying the majority of my income in taxes to support the families of worthless lowlives.

ptegegn1 The US is working just fine. I don't pay taxes so that some liberal pussy can spend half a decade on the dole doing a masters in Women's Studies. It's not a difficult concept, work or starve.

ptegegn1 1. False. If they did they would not support the welfare state which only exists to provide an equality of outcomes. 2. There is a reason why those families are poor. Blood tells. There are exceptions and they filter their way up and down. Face it, rich families tend to be rich because they make better decisions than poor families. As for "underfunded" schools. The public elementary schools get more money per student in poor areas than in "rich" areas. Yet... The poor can't even be bothered to make their kids attend school regularly. (See Chicago as an outstanding example.) Coincidentally, most of this extra money doesn't go to the school, it goes to inflated teacher's salaries and pensions. 3. Except that when you are not paying for your degree, you are not motivated to make sure that you are actually learning anything. State control of education is absurd. The government has no place in any educational facility, much less a university. It is not part of a government's legitimate purpose. As for Scandinavian countries... There is a reason why they are the laughing stock of the western world. (Or do we need to talk about Sweeden?) As for your "wants" That is the definition of communism. There is a wonderful Japanese saying. "Those who don't work, don't eat." Oh, and progressive taxes are nothing more than highway robbery. Why should I pay more in taxes when I am getting the exact same (if not fewer) services? Why don't you move your ass to Russia? I hear they are all about communism over there.

ptegegn1 I live in the US. Poverty here is a matter of choice, not circumstance. You CHOOSE to use drugs. You CHOOSE to skip school. You CHOOSE to get involved with gangs. Etc... There are no LEGAL barriers to people succeeding in the US. It's not easy, but it is possible. As I said, I spent most of my early life in a house without running water. Now I have a higher education, a good job, and a life I could only have dreamed of as a child. As for Norway... You do realize that the only reason why Russia hasn't gotten around to annexing you yet is because your entire national defense is provided by NATO? Right?

Aww.... Poor babies. Funny how when you have to pay for your own education, you might be a little less interested in studying useless shit.
